Synopsis
Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), also known as ‘Drones’ are becoming a very useful tool for SAR response when managed appropriately. The ability to leverage this emerging technology with longer battery life and loiter times as well as utilizing the newer optics and infrared capability as well as other sensor platforms can detect lost subjects with growing efficiency. Also, cost can be dramatically lower than traditional other air assets such as helicopters. Safety with deconflicting air space remains paramount, but with appropriate training and organization, this can be done safely. This presentation with discuss concepts of operation and planning to utilize UAS safely in SAR response.
